Yang Kyung-Ho
Abstract
Introduction : We evaluated radiographic and clinical results of 18 hips (14 patients) that had a primary total hip arthroplasty using ABG femoral stem.

Material and methods : From August 1992 to May 1997, 14 patients(18 Hips) were treated at chosun University hospital. The average age of the patients was 47 years. Sixteen cases were men and two were women. The average follow up period was 80 months.

Results : The average Harris hip score was 92 points postoperatively and excellent or good clinical results were 17hips(94%). Osteolysis was seen in 7 hips, but no femoral loosening or stem failure were observed. No revision was performed for any femoral reason.

Conclusion : We concluded that the design of ABG stem can obtain press-fit fixation and HA coatings can obtain rigid stem bone fixation by osteoconduction and ostcointegration. For more good result, stem design and HA coating study are needed.
